A. CLASSIFICATION ON THE BASIS OF HP ECONOMIC SURVEY
-this classification is termed as Agro climatic classification of Himachal pradesh.
Total 4 classification
-sub toripcal/sub montane low hills
-sub temprate/sub humid mid hills
-wet temprate high hills
-dry temprate high hills and cold deserts
B) But for simplification and detailed study we will divide climatic Regions of Himachal pradesh as follows
1.Tropical climate
2.Temprate climate
3.Higher alpine Arctic climate
1.Tropical climate
It is further divided as follows-
1.1-Lower tropical climate
1.2-sub tropical climate
1.1 Lower tropical climate-
– elevation upto -750m
-lower shiwalik and dun area
-hottest area
1.2- sub tropical climate
– elevation -upto 1500m
– moist soil and seasonally high rainfall
-areas of Chamba, kangra, Bilaspur, hamirpur etc.
2.Temprate climate-
-in middle and upper parts of state

2.1- wet temprate zone
2.2-Cool humid temprate zone
2.1-wet temprate zone-
-confined to wet mountain slopes of Dalhousie, Dharamshala, Kangra and Palampur
-High rainfall
2.2 cool humid temprate zone
-confined to Shimla, kotgarh, kotkhai, nalagarh, chamba, churah, kullu
-unpredictable climate
3.Higher alpine Arctic climate-2500 to 4500m
-subtypes
3.1-sub alpine(upto 3500)
3.2-moist alpine zone(3500-4500)
3.3- alpine or freezed Arctic(above 4500)
-majorly in rain shadow area
-high snow fall
-with increase in hight very less vegetation
-ex-kinnaur, pangi, lahaul spiti, other major peaks in Himachal
