STATE SYMBOLS OF HIMACHAL PRADESH – PART 2

1) STATE TREE- DEODAR (देवदार)
✓Declared as the State Tree of Himachal Pradesh Deodar Cedar (Cedrus deodara), is a species of cedar native to the western Himalayas (Himachal Pradesh), occurring at 1500m-3200 m altitude.
✓ It is a large evergreen coniferous tree reaching 40-50m tall, exceptionally 60m, with a trunk up to 3 m diameter.
✓It has a conic crown with level branches and drooping branchlets.
✓The leaves are needle-like, mostly 2.5-5 cm long, Occasionally up to 7 cm long, slender (1 mm thick), borne singly on long shoots, and in dense clusters of 20-30 on short shoots; they vary from bright green to glaucous blue-green in colour.

2) STATE FLOWER- Pink Rhododendron (गुलाबी बुरांश) ✓Declared as the State Flower of Himachal Pradesh Pink Rhododendron (Rhododendron campanulata) is found in very few regions of Himachal. ✓According to the reports of International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN) Pink Rhododendron comes under the endangered species of flower. ✓Pink Rhododendron found at an altitude ranging from 8,000 ft to 11,000 ft, yields pink flowers.
