It was extension of quit India movement in Himachal Pradesh

 

REASON

Pajhota Andolan was both.

AGRARIAN & POLITICAL in nature.

Also suppression by employees of Raja annoyed people of this area.

It was started under the aegis of KISAN SABHA.

-Some Farmers of Giripur area assembled at village- JADOL- TAPROLI and Formed KISAN SABHA

LAKSHMI SINGH– was chairman of this Sabha and VAID SURAT PRAKASH was secretary

it was so well organized that state imposed Martial law

 

LEADERS of this Movement

Lakshmi Singh, Vaid Surat Singh, Mia Chuchu, Basti Ram Pahari, Sunhari Devi,Matha Ram, Atma Devi, Daya Ram, Sita Ram

 

OBJECTIVE AND FUNCTION OF PAJOTHA KISAN SABHA

1.Taxes like Pasture tax, animal tax etc. should be removed.

2.Open trading of crops should be encouraged.

3.Removal of corrupt employees of state.

4. Establishment of elected body in Sirmaur.

5.Zero tolerance towards British rule.

 

CLASHES between RAJA OF SIRMAUR AND FARMERS ASSOCIATION

MAHARAJA RAJENDRA PRAKASHA

-some of these demands(as stated above in objectives) were sent to raja. But he didn’t pay any attention to these demands. Which further annoyed These farmers

There was Revenue minister of Raja known as Gopal singh he rejected all these demands

– in 1943 this movement became bit violent in nature and Vaid Sura Singh was main leader in this movement

-later on Raja of Sirmaur imposed martial law in the state

IMPACT

-Kisan Sabha organized Parallel government in the Princely state

-Plight of Agrarian economy and agrarian Crisis were highlighted through this movement

-Synchronization of freedom struggle movements of Himachal Pradesh with that of National freedom struggle movements ex. Quit India movement was another outcome of this movement.
